I want to build a boat rod to match with a Penn 9M bait casting reel with 15 lb line. What rod would one recommend?

IIRC the 9M is a level wind holding around 250 yards of 15# test. Figure closer to 300 yards with todays line.

A lot would depend on the waters you fish. In my area it could be used in salt water for fish like smaller kingfish, tuna, dolphin, and sailfish although better suited for bottom fishing. But maybe you fish freshwater?

Without more info I'd suggest a live bait blank like the rclb700xl which has a 12-25# test rating.

Thanks Russell, I'll be using the rod in the bay and lower Potomac fishing for Spanish, Blues, and Rock fish. I found a Seeker blank, fast action, live bait, 7'0", with a line wait of 10 to 25#. Think this might work?

Sounds like the same blank....gf70xl?

The rclb is just about the same at around half the price.

Where do I find such a blank gf70xl? I tried to find it in the Mud Hole catalog.

My bad.....that would be a calstar gf700xl. Very much like the rclb series....a live bait blank that is rated 10-25#. They have some in 6 foot...7 foot...and 8 foot. Seeker makes a top quality blank and I'm sure what you picked out will do too.
