Think I could get away with this?

I have a factory rod built on a St. Croix 2SW70MF blank. A rod broke and I needed something in a hurry. The rod is okay but the factory rear grip length is too short. It will fish upwards of 15# class and rear grip is around 7 inches.
So, think I can get away with turning down the rear cork grip and gluing a 12" carbon tube on it? That would leave that last 5 inches of the carbon/texalium/kevlar tube unsupported. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: Think I could get away with this?

I don't think you will have a problem at all. Your carbon grip is basically the same as your carbon rod except larger diameter, and maybe stronger. Re: Think I could get away with this?

Since the butt cap will be coming off, you could always epoxy an extension inside the old blank and arbor it up to support the carbon grip. Re: Think I could get away with this?

One of the vendors at the ICBRE was demonstrating a product that will allow you to extend the length of the butt section of your rod on the fly. Check out "Adjust-A-Butt Telescoping Handle System by Manley Rods" it might just be what you are looking for. Re: Think I could get away with this?

Russ,
You should be just fine using the tubing for your extension. That stuff is surprisingly rigid. Joe Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
