I'm a first time builder and just put on the first coat of Flex CoatLlite on a 6' 2 wt. If I'm happy with the coverage, should I put on a second coat anyway? Re: Flex Coat Lite Second Coat?

Hi Gene,
I am fairly new to rod building also. Built only 3 rods so far. But everything I have read and what I have done has only one coat is all you need for a light rod. But I will let the experts tell you what they do. Re: Flex Coat Lite Second Coat?

Just make sure you have the tunnel area fully shut off with that first coat. If you do not, and you subject the rod to rain or dunk it, you likely will see fogging in the thread finish. If that happens, and you really dry it out, like for a couple weeks, you can do another coat at that time to fix it. Been there, done that. Re: Flex Coat Lite Second Coat?

Thanks for the info.. I went back and made sure the tunnels were filled using a bodkin to carefully place the epoxy. I then put on a second coat. I'm glad I did that. It looks better than just one coat. Can't wait to fish it on my favorite brook trout stream! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
