Due to several personal issues, it has been a couple of years since I have built a rod. I am now starting a build for my son that I had started planning previously and had to put on hold. My question is regarding rod finish. I like using afcote and in looking at my current supply of it I have a bottle of hardener and a bottle of resin that have both been opened and used previously. They have been well sealed and in my workshop which stays between 55- 65 degrees year round. They have not been exposed to natural light at all and very little fluorescent light. Both appear to be smooth and liquid in the bottle, no chunks. But the hardener is much darker than it's original color. Will this stay dark after mixed and applied, or will it apply and appear clear. I would like to use it if possible but don't want to use it if it will darken the thread colors.
I do realize, from doing a search here, that the finish will still work properly. But beyond that I want the finish to apply clear and not be tinted brown by the current color tint of the hardener Thanks Jim Re: Rod finish

When you are looking at the hardener in the bottle, you are looking through neatly an inch of material. Although the hardener has coloured, in the thicknesses that are used in building a rod, the colour will be unnoticeable unless you are using white thread. Even then it will only be a slight cast. Epoxy will turn yellow or amber, in the bottle or on the rod. So even if you started with perfectly clear epoxy, it'll turn amber or yellow on the rod over time, just as it did in the bottle.
