Hi Guys, I have roller top that is a tad big, so I was thinking about putting a layer of A thread underneath it. Is this ok to do? If it is, should I epoxy the thread first then put the top on? I plan on threading over the top and out about a half an inch or so too. Hope this isnt a really stupid question!
Thanks in advance, Scott "My biggest fear in life is that when I die, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it." Re: Thread under Tip-Top

There is no stupid question! Yes a slight build up of thread will work with a thin coat of epoxy. make sure it is fully cured for at least several days before using an epoxy glue to secure the top. Should work fine. Re: Thread under Tip-Top

Scott,
I frequently put a layer of thread on the tip of a rod, if a tip is a bit big. After applying the thread, I just use hot melt glue to glue the tip to the blank. In the case of a very heavy duty rod, as might be your case, I will use epoxy glue to glue the tip to the rod. In both cases, I will extend the thread down the tip for an inch or so, and when coating guides, will coat the tip thread as well with rod finish. I have never ever had any issues with a tip coming loose. If anything, the gluing is better because of the adhesive gripping the thread as well as the tip and blank. Be safe Re: Thread under Tip-Top

prep the tip location for the top with 220 paper Then what I do is put a piece of tap 1" from where the top lays Start the thread with tape holding the end WIDE raps to the tip then back Secure with tape Wrap the thread tight DRY fit the top to make sure it fits well
I then get a drill bit and scratch the inside of the tube of the tip Dry Fit Apply 5 min Make sure you have marked where and how the tip will go on GLUE ON trim thread off Bill - willierods.com Re: Thread under Tip-Top
