I can use CCS to on an unmarked fly rod blank. Is there a way to do the same for a spinning or casting rod to determine line and lure weight information?

Last year I bought a bunch of discount 100% graphite blanks, from a major supplier, that came with no information.
Obviously I had no intention of selling these rods as a first line product. However as a test bed and for practice...Well the price was right...Grin. I had several "known" blanks on hand, and compared the flex and feel of the unknown, to the known. This wasn't very scientific, but at least I was able to rate them as fast or slow and form a general opinion of what each might be good for. Manufactures list dozens of blanks with slight differences that are supposed to be technique and specie specific. This is good marketing...However, in the real world many people do a lot of fishing with one or two rods that they chose by feel. If you get, and can understand, information on how to use the CCS method to rate your blanks, great. I have no higher math skills and my method was good enough to allow me to build some successful rods. Re: Mystery blank ratings

The Universal Rod Rating component of the CCS will get you the lure casting weight range. Line weight ratings on casting and spinning blanks aren't based on any inherent property of measurement of the blank itself - they're subjective and based on what the manufacturer feels would be a good match for the application. However, sometimes they're indicative of what the blank's dead lift limit is.
