Does anyone know if Lynn Williams ever went forward with his guide alignment tool. I think he was calling it the Taperline. I have wanted one since first seeing it at the show a few years ago and cannot find it. If anyone knows anything please help me get one.

No he didn't. Not yet, anyway. The cost to produce it was much more than he felt he could sell it for. He may be exploring some alternative solutions but I haven't talked to him about it in some time.

Thanks Tom. I love the concept of the one part of rod building that takes me way too much time.

Do you really need a guide alianment tool ??
Guides up Eye them Guides down use the blank as Center Do this Outside in good light works better

I always put the tip top on first Line it to the seat and reel
Then line all the rest to the top

You can also get a bright colored fly line Use the thine running part run it though the guides with a little weight on the end

Do you have Bad Vision ???

My guide alignment tool is the reel foot off of an old casting reel. I secure the foot in the reel seat on the rod, and I use a line level that is balanced in the foot and when the bubble is absolutely level, I tape the guides in place. Has worked for me for many years.

A perfectly straight line exactly drawn down one axis of the blank can be quite helpful. It can be done, but the tool to do it, for what Lynn feels is an affordable price is still a bit off.

I have the same setup as Randolph & have done so for years also .I also use a laser level if I need a line down the rod .I have a centre line scribed into one of the chuck jaws ,line up the level with this mark & run the level down the blank marking as I go & then run a piece of thread making sure that it touches each mark. As I always use the laser during setup the extra time taken is measured in seconds.
