End Cap Inserts

What do you guys use for end cap inserts on your rods? I know what I like if it's my rod. I use old buffalo nickels but I'm wondering what I can use for a generic rod build.

I usually use rubberized cork for my end rings, then fill the hole with a cork plug and then mix some cork dust and rod bond then glue over the hole. Sometimes I'll turn an end cap from wood and glue it on to cover the hole.

I prefer either of these options to the rubber butt caps.

I have used Indian Head pennies as well as some selected golf ball markers. It all depends upon the customer. I only build fly rods, so nearly all want no bling.

I use metal coat buttons a lot. I will also use round lapel and hat pins from the @#$%& sites. The metal buttons come in lots of styles and patterns. They are also inexpensive. The hat and lapel pins are great for military vets.

On my rods, I use silver dimes ... On rods that are made for costumers I use new nickel or shinny new pennies

Mike Barkley turned me on to this site.... custom golf ball markers. I do them with my logo usually, but have put pictures and all kinds of stuff on them. The only downfall is the week and a half wait to get them from Hong Kong.
