Hello all I am a born again member. I use to follow this site a long time ago but gave up rod building due to the fact that I am pretty much color blind. It made for a lot of help when it came to deciding on colors. I have decided to build one more rod for a friend of mine and it is a surprise so I can't ask about colors. I am building a 3wt St Croix rod that is a green color. Greens and grays are my hardest colors. I am thinking about a dark green thread wrap with a silver tip on one end of the thread. The reel seats I am looking at is a dark green ash or a Buckeye that looks king of gray, I think. This is the problem I am not sure what to go with due to the fact I can't tell the difference. This will be a small stream fly rod and I don't want a lot of flash. I am using black single foot guides on it.
I have been going over a lot of threads in the last few weeks and see that things have changed some since my last rod so I will have to catch up on a few things. Any help on color selection would be very helpful.

The old dark green from Gudebrod (I believe it's 5896) is available from most other thread suppliers now. That and silver metallic would be very attractive.

That green with a copper mattalic trim would also look good

Thanks, any ideas on the reel seat? Should I go green or buckeye?

I would go with the green ash seat. If you are using chrome hardware on the seat with the green insert will mirror the guide wraps of green with silver tipping.

Thanks for all your help, this is what I was thinking I just wish I could see it well enough to figure it out on my own. I wrapped some of the dark green on the blank last night and it all looked the same color but I know it is not. He(( getting old.

I have been reading about decals on this site and I have never used them in the past. What do most of you use , water slide or peel and stick?

Most decal makers have moved to peel and stick. They're easier for most people to apply.
