Hi quick one for you,
When building a 9' line wt 8 2 piece fly rod what size grip do you recommend? would 7" suffice? Thanks in advance for any answers Andi Re: what handle?

Much depends upon the size of your hand. 7 to 7 1/4 is pretty standard for a fly rod. If you have large hands you might want to go a little larger. Full wells style recommended for the 8wt. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/02/2013 06:55PM by Phil Erickson. Re: what handle?

Would agree with Phil. Full wells and 7" is fine. If you have hands like the jolly green giant may want 7 1/2". Re: what handle?

I think the diameter is more important than the length. I just finished a grip for a 4 weight and made it a little larger in diameter than normal, and it really feels good. I suggest modeling up a grip in a slightly larger diameter. Agree with full wells, suggest reconsidering 2 piece in favor of 4 for a much handier travel experience at no or little discernible difference in feel. Re: what handle?

Be careful with an oversize (diameter) grip! I have two customers who wanted them, and both have been back to have me remove and replace with the more standard diameters. When your hand does not close comfortably, casting gets tiring. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
