Good morning. I'm getting ready to do a Revolver wrap on a 7'3 mh casting rod on a Mhx blank. The handle ( from bottom of reel seat) is going to be 13 inch. I was wondering if someone can help me with guide sizes that I should order, an. where I should place my first butt guide.
thanks in advance . Re: guide size for Revolver wrap

Chris,
Make your first guide the same size and placement as with any conventional casting rod. Then, let the line flow dictate the placement of the other guides. Generally, all of the rest of the guides can be the same size as your final running guides. Be safe Re: guide size for Revolver wrap

Try, 6,5,4 followed by 3's as per Steve Gardners recipes. You should be well pleased with the results.

Depending on the reel and line size, you might have to go larger with the first guide. Even up to a size 10 or 12 for a large reel and heavy line. It is not the fact that the smaller guide will not fit the larger line. It is the fact, that with a very large reel, there is too much a height variation between the reel and the first guide.
Or, you may go with a size 6 high profile guide to lift the guide further away from the reel for line alignment. Be safe Re: guide size for Revolver wrap

If you use a smaller stripping guide, be careful of the placement. Sometimes with a spiral wrap, the line can pile up on one side of the reel with a small guide. You can either rotate the guide a bit to even out the line on the spool, or use a bigger guide.

Chris,
By the way, I never have the stripping guide set at 0 degrees. I find that if I have the stripping guide at 0 degrees, I tend to get line stacking on one side of the reel, no matter if the reel has a self centering feature or not. So, I typically will have the stripper guide - twisted, or realigned 5-10 degrees in the direction of the spiral. After I have the guides taped in place before wrapping, I put on the reel that will be used on the rod. I thread the line through the guides and pull off about a 100 feet of line. Then, with moderate pressure on the line, as if I were retrieving a lure or small fish, I wind the line back on the reel. If I find that the line is stacking on one side or the other, I will realign the stripper guide as needed to insure that the line is distributed equally across the face of the reel.
