Library For Aspiring Rod Maker

I have the following books -

Advanced Custom Rod Building – Clemens
Fiberglass Rod Making – Clemens
Graphite Rod Repair – Garcia
Rod-Building Guide - Kirkman
The Technology of Fly Rods – Phillips

RodMaker Magazine has a series of Special Edition CD’s –

Tools, Fixtures & Shops - $29.95
Rod Guide Sizing - $29.95
Task Specific Rod Building - $29.95

So, $89.85 for all three.

Or I could buy all 48 issues of Volumes 2 to 9 for $99.99

Is there enough additional information in the Volume 2 to 9 set to make spending the additional $10.14 worthwhile?

I’m mainly interested in understanding rod design and technology better.

What other publications would forum members suggest I buy to acquire a better insight into these areas?

Hi Steve,
Defintely worth the extra. Their is a lot of excellent info on those cd's whether it has to do with design and technology or not. If you are interested in the craft then all the magazine issues are well worth the cost.
The 9-15 cd will be a boon to all the newer builders as well and it should be out shortly.

The Volume 2 through 9 CD won't have all the articles found in the other 3 CDs. Of course, the 3 Special Edition CDs don't have all the articles found in Volume 2 through 9.

Lots of good info on the 'net but even combined it all pales in comparison to the amount of stuff found in the mag. Plus once you read a little of it you realize that just about every technique or question ever asked on this and all other rod building message boards has already been covered in detail in earlier issues of the mag.

I’m having a hard time understanding everything that has been said.

Col Chaseling –
When might “out shortly” be?

Tom -
I get that there are topics/articles in Volumes 2 to 9 that do not appear in the Special Edition CD’s.

Are you saying that some of the content in the Special Edition CD’s appeared in Volumes 9 to 15?

If so, if I bought the Volume 2 to 9 CD now, and then bought the Volume 9 to 15 CD when it is released, would I then have all the information contained in the Special Edition CD’s?

If not, how could I obtain the missing information?

James –
Are you saying that there is information that has appeared in early issues of RodMaker Magazine that has not been put into the CD’s?

The 9 to 15 CD will be awhile coming yet.

The SE CDs have some articles that ran in those later issues.
