Building some dipsy diver rods that will be using wire line. Need suggestions for roller guides make and model. I want them to be quality however they will not be used in salt water so I am looking for something affordable that will work in fresh water.
Thanks, Buzz Re: Roller guide suggestions for fresh water applications

If you are going with wire, a lot of folks are using the spring wire tip, rather than the more conventional roller tip.

Builders,
I did read a number of posts that I searched from some time ago that suggests using conventional guides with super hard rings instead of the rollers. I am going to look into that along with spring tip mentioned here as well as your roller guide suggestions. New territory to me. This is fun researching a new kind of build. thanks for the help. I'd steer you away from roller guides. We used them use them a lot in past years. IMHO ringed guides have gotten good enough that I wouldn't put up with the extra cost and maintenance of roller guides for anything under 50 to 80# class. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Silicine nitride guides from Fuji or another source are what you want for wire. Re: Roller guide suggestions for fresh water applications

I build great lakes trolling rods almost exclusively. Unless your building a diver rod of about 7' the weight of roller guides is just too much weight for a typical diver rod blank to handle, making them clumsy at best. I've pretty much settled on two build approaches.
For traditional guide layouts, I prefer Fuji BHNNG Silicon Nitride guides [anglersresource.net] with a swiveling Torpedo Roller Guide tip [www.torpedodivers.com] For a spiral build, I use the same Fuji BHNNG but with a Twili Tip [www.fishingrodstuff.com]. The yellow plastic of the Twili tip is butt ugly, but it works pretty well. If you are building for a really experienced angler who can keep the wire on a non-swiveling roller, then you might consider the All Amerian N e p t u n e Spiral Roller tip [www.aarollerguides.com]. What blank have you settled on? Re: Roller guide suggestions for fresh water applications

Exactly what John said for me also. John, I have wrapped a tiny 6mm Silicon Carbide single foot on the tube of the @#$%& roller and it works similar to the Torpedo in keeping the line on the roller. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
