I want to refinish a Carrot Stick. I really like the rod and action but could do without the orange paint. Is there a way to remove the paint without hurting the blank? Re: Paint removal

Scraping is safest but takes a lot of time and effort. There are some citrus strippers that won't hurt your blank, but their effectiveness depends on the coating you're working on.
Whatever you do, don't sand the paint off. That can harm the rod blank. ................. Re: Paint removal

Like Tom said...depends on how much your time is worth.
I'd probably just purchase another comparable blank. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/23/2013 10:29PM by Craig Mullins. Re: Paint removal

I use a throwing knife ( dull ) blade 90 degrees to the blank Don't get heavy handed or cut into the blank You are not cutting a piece of wood
The a scoff pad to clean it up Bill - willierods.com Re: Paint removal

Could you just repaint? or does painting add so much weight that the action is altered?

There are no paint strippers that will do this? Re: Paint removal

Citri strip works on most finishes and won't harm the blank. Some may require multiple applications or longer dwell time.

Call a Home Depot or like wise They should carry it
You could just ( if it has a clear coat on it ) sand with 4 - 500 sandpaper Or a scotch pad paint If very light rod Strip it Bill - willierods.com Re: Paint removal

Hi Chuck, I'm currently working on my 4th refurbished rod. I picked up my citrus based stripper from Hone Depot, haven't had any blank issue as of yet. I do have to say it is time consuming but, if you take your time I think you'll be happy with the results. Re: Paint removal
