A friend asked me to put a new grip on a rod he has had since he was a kid. The rod has an aluminum ferrule with a slot on it to insert into the handle, but I'm not sure what grip I can replace the original with. I'd post a pic if I knew how to do that here. Any advice? Re: Casting grip

What type of rod is it? A casting rod with a pistol grip?

I think it was a pistol grip casting rod, but not sure. The aluminum ferrule is about 3-4" long. I waslooking at that grip from Janns, but didn't know if it would fit. Do older pistol grips typically have the slot in the bottom of the ferrule? It would make sense. Re: Casting grip

Depending on the rod and the age, you may have to get creative. You can always change out the ferrule to a different one, or even make up a new handle of your own design and fit it to the rod blank. There are a lot of options here but without knowing more about the rod or your customer's particular desires it's kind of hard to really dial in on any specific recommendation.

He wants to keep it as original as possible. The rod was custom built about 25 years ago. I will try to post a photo on the rod photo site and link. Re: Casting grip

I doubt you'll find a handle that will that ferrule. So you're faced with buying a new handle and installing the ferrule that comes with it to the blank.
Not sure how many ferruled casting type handles are available these days, however. ............... Re: Casting grip
