Old Decal Peeling off

Hey Everyone,

I'm doing a rehab on a buddies old fishing rod. The original decal is peeling up on one side and he would like me to try and save it. I tried wrapping it in thread, quite tightly, then covering that in color preserver, thinking that might help it lay down. After a week I started unwrapping the threads and it's rolling right back up, like I hadn't done anything to it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to lay down so I can get some epoxy over it?

Thanks so much, Jeff

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.

You might try the same drill, except use 5 min epoxy instead of CP. Clean the lifted area as much as you can, apply the epoxy, then wrap with thread to secure. Watch the kick point and remove the thread before it cures fully.

I assume that the lifted portion has graphics you want to save. If it doesn't, just cut it off and proceed with finish. If it does, try the process above.

I would also think to try to put it - Under the - lift - and not just over it

Pick the corner up with maybe a toothpick and with a brush put some under it
Let kick a - Little - Then press down with a paper towel Careful so as not to get towel glued onto it

A rag may be better should not pull apart

Jeff,
Or, take a picture of the decal and send it to decal connections and have them make you a new on.

I wonder if you wrapped it with white 000 silk and then coated it with epoxy (no CP). The silk would go transparent and the epoxy would seal it down & kep out moisture. A new decal would sure be the nuts if you can.

I have used Emer's Wood glue as a CP ( Thinned ) It works as a CP and it tends to glue because it is a wood glue

Ya got to thin it or it comes out Yellow Sets fast

Brush some under the lift let set \Experiment with the time it takes to set on scrap

Press it down so it sticks Maybe roll a round object over it A pen ?? so you don't Scrap Over it
Or the thread
