Night Snapper fishing I free line the chum line..
Installing a butt gimbal on a stout but short ( 6-6.6') graphite blank. 10-25wt
I've been doing it with E-glass pieces inserted in the gimbal with a ferrule inserted inside the E-glass and sand it to fit the graphite blank.
This is very time consuming. I've searched here, but no joy.

There has to be a better way :)

Why are you inserting the E Glass and running it up the blank when all you need to do is put epoxy in the gimbal and put it on the blank that is shimmed with tape or drywall mesh. Thats all you need to do. The gimbal doesn't see a tremendous amount of force so you will be fine with that. Use a good epoxy, not 5 minute. But that can certainly be used also.

Well I guess these wont come apart :)
Thanks.
It just doesn't "seem" very strong done the way you state.
These blanks (Shikari) are only 1/2-3/8 butts
They look lonely in these aluminum gimbals

just pack it out with Drywall tape to fit. Unroll it butter it with epoxy as you reroll it, make sure you prepare the end of the blank and inside the Gimbal

More than strong enough, although I like to use graphite arbors. Masking tape and/or drywall tape is proven to work on big time 130# class stuff. It will certainly handle snapper dutty.

BTW, you might want to consider a "ball gimbal". Works well with a belt and doesn't wear a hole in your gut when you can't get one on fast enough.

Thanks guys

BTW: Sometimes I use drywall tape on my butt wraps. Makes a nice diamond pattern covered with metallic thread
