Once you get past the butt guide you can and should go as small as you can and still be able to easily pass your line and any connections you expect to be used.
The line isn't going to care what type of frame holds the rings. If you use the same colors, the customer may not either. ..................... Re: Ring size

The angler should be directing the line onto that type set up with his/her thumb.

Bill,
Any time you get stacking on one side of the reel or the other on a spiral wrapped rod, that uses a line leveling guide on the reel, you should experiment with the setting of the degree angle of the first guide in front of the reel. Many folks set up spiral wrapped rods with the first guide at 0 degrees. I have found in building many spiral wrapped rods, that even if using a reel with a line leveling guide will tend to stack line on one side of the reel, with this guide setup. So, I test and experiment, before setting the final degree angle of the first guide. On most rods, I end up with about a 5 degree offset of the first guide to compensate for the line stacking. It is very easy to test. Pull out about a 100 feet of line off the reel and stack it on the floor. Then, putting slight tension on the line from outside the tip of the rod, reel the line back in with no thumb line direction on the reel. If you get line stacking on one or the other side of the reel, change the first guide orientation with respect to the blank in the direction opposite the stacking and retest. Continue testing until you can retrieve the 100 feet of line with no thumb line guiding on a reel directed line placement with no stacking on one or the other side of the reel. Surprisingly enough, the stacking is not always on the same side of a given reel. So, the first guide may have to be tilted to either the direction of the spiral - or against the direction of the spiral. Be safe Re: Ring size

Don't have the reel Roger So I am going to have to give it a good shot and tilt the butt guide so if it stacks it will on the side so he can push it over with his thumb
The reels he will be using don't have the ring to help stack the line Unless I can get him to send me one of his ???? Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
