Hi everyone,I'm new posting to this forum but I've been lurking on here for a while.I'm going to try and build my own rods as a hobby. The question I have today is how do you get a reel seat off an old rod to be reused.I have a broken Lamiglas Surf Rod that I'd like to save the guides and reel seat.Any advise helpful.By the way,you guys build some beautiful rods.

Heat will usually soften the epoxy holding the seat on the blank. Assuming you are not attempting to salvage the blank, and depending upon the material, there are a couple of ways to approach the removal. 1, Use a heat gun. 2. boil it in water for 10 minutes or so. Then twist off. Be sure to use gloves or pads as you want to do this while it is hot. It may take more then one attempt to get it loose.

After you get it off, you will need to clean up the inside of the seat to remove old adhesive material.

Cut the blank on each end of the seat and ream it out with a drill to fit the new blank...... BUT....seats are pretty inexpensive, I would buy a new one.

The difficulty in removing a seat without damage may preclude it being economically feasible to bother with. Try one and decide for yourself.

Thanks for all the replies.I'll try the heat gun first. If it becomes to difficult then I'll just trash it.
