Hello all,
I have a vintage Wright & McGill fiberglass rod that I would like to restore, but am missing one guide and the tip is quite damaged. I was wondering if anyone out there had parts that might fit my needs? The rod is a 5 foot Chieftan model. All guides and the tip top are the same size, roughly 4.5 mm inside diameter and 6.5 outside diameter. Here are a few links to photos: [stevoreno.com] [stevoreno.com] [stevoreno.com] Thanks! Hi Steve,
Restorations are fun. Most guys would use this particular rod as stock for spigot ferrules but good for you to restore it. It's a solid fiberglass casting rod. The guides used were common in the day as none of them had inserts. You can still find these guides today from any number of the suppliers on the left, Jann's, Anglers Workshop, Angler's Roost and Mudhole, etc. They are boat guides without inserts and are still made by Mildrum, Pac Bay and Batson Enterprises. The problem you will have is that most of the sizes now stop at 8 and yours are 6's. Someone will probably have a few of these around so you could get lucky there. If you want to retain the original look, and can't find another size 6 guide, you could purchase one new #8, use it for the stripper and move that one to the missing location. Tip tops should also be available from these suppliers to match the guide set. Good luck and take some pictures for us. Terry Re: Looking for Parts
