I have always used hot melt adhesive for glueing my tip tops to the blank. However recently several people have told me to use epoxy or super glue In all cases they insist that their way is the only correct method. What do you guys think???? hot melt, epoxy or super glue Re: Adhesive for tip-top

Hi Tom, I use five min epoxy. Less likely to have a tip come loose when your rod is stored in a hot car. -Cary Re: Adhesive for tip-top

5 min. epoxy. I've had too many hot melt rod tips get turned on me. You can still remove them if necessary, but it's not going to happen accidentally. Re: Adhesive for tip-top

If you do use the hot-melt glue (I often do), you can extend your epoxy wrap finish up over the tip-top trim wrap and onto the top tube just a bit and this will "lock" the tip-top in place. Should you ever need to replace the top, you just skin the epoxy off the top tube with a razor blade and then briefly heat and remove as usual. On heavier duty rods, I would also recommend 5-minute epoxy. .................. Re: Adhesive for tip-top

Tom, I use 5 min. epoxy here in Arizona as the summertime it gets over 115 degree's and with the hot melt sticks they just don't hold up like the epoxy does. Neal Cissel Neal's Fishing Products Re: Adhesive for tip-top

Epoxy for the same reason Neil mentioned.I live in the southern interior of BC(Okanagan) and while we do get considerably colder weather in the winter,we also get temps well over 100 deg in the summer. Re: Adhesive for tip-top

Gudebrod hot melt on most light duty tops. 5 minute epoxy on heavy duty rods. When building a new rod, I always run the finish, not the thread, 1/8 to 1/4 up on the tube. Re: Adhesive for tip-top

Matt, do you use heat to remove a broken tip with 5 Minute epoxy? Rob Re: Adhesive for tip-top

Rob - I set my rod on my wrapper and light my alcohol torch. Blow some heat on the tip top. Slowly and steadily. I use a pliers and keep trying to lightly twist the tip top. When the epoxy fails the tip will twist with no effort. Then twist and pull it right off. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
