Hi Guys,
How long should I leave threadmaster between the final coat and actually fishing it. It is the standard threadmaster. I haven't had this problem in the past as I normally put the rod away for a week. Thanks Ben Re: Threadmaster epoxy

The chemical reaction that bonds it together goes on for some time. I'm sure you could apply it and fish the next morning, but you might scratch the finish. If you leave it for several days, it will get harder and more damage resistant. Still if you had to, you could fish it as soon as it's set.
For me, I finish the rod and then stand it in a corner for another week before using it, or putting it away. Never had an issue. Drew Re: Threadmaster epoxy

48 hours is a okay for fishing if you couldn't wait one week for full cure. Re: Threadmaster epoxy

It depends on how warm the temperature is where the rod is being kept. If it's been 75F+ then you should be okay to use the rod about 3 days after applying the finish. If colder, I'd wait a day or two longer than that.
The problem with using it too soon after finish has been applied is that the epoxy won't be sufficiently hard to resist pressure, printing, spotting, etc. .............. Re: Threadmaster epoxy

For me Threadmaster seems to take longer to get hard, it is not soft or sticky but just does not feel fully cured. Flex coat after a day and a half or two (or less) feels completely hard. I had someone that makes a finish epoxy tell me it is important to not expose the finish to UV light for 6-7 days. I am not sure if that is accurate or applies to all finish, but seems like a reasonable inconvenience to insure a good long lasting finish. Re: Threadmaster epoxy

Steve, some finishes don't get "hard" at all.
I have not used Threadmaster so I can not comment on its properties. Re: Threadmaster epoxy

Ben,
Not recommending this, but I have fished rods 7 hours after finishing them. My finishing room was 78 degrees, and the finish was hard, but "dentable". It just depends on if you are willing to do a little work, correcting some potential dings and scrapes, and loose guides. Also, I have been using regular threadmaster for years. There have been trips that I just HAD TO USE MY NEW ROD, but didn't have the time to let it sit. So I understand the question, whether for the same reasons or not. Chris Re: Threadmaster epoxy

Thanks guys,
Been 4 days finish room was at 78degrees for the first 2 days then rod has been at probably at 65 - 70 for the other 2. I don't think I'll take the risk though. Thanks again, Ben Re: Threadmaster epoxy
