guide spacing

Still fairly new at this but progressing nicely, thanks in large part to you folks on this forum. Helping a newcomer with his first build and want to ensure I get things as accurately as possible, starting with the guide spacing.

Could someone give me the guide spacing for a Dan Craft, Five Rivers, FT, 9 foot, 4 piece, 6 weight fly rod?

Thank you,

Greg Meinzer

Hi Greg,
One thing that is not set is guide spacing even blanks of the same model from one manufacturer. Read all you can on static testing, learn the hows and whys. When you understand it properly you will be well on your way. I don't build fly rods but I could get the guide spacing correct if required. Might take several goes but I'd get there. You can use someones suggestion for a starting point and that will help but each blank is a bit different. Another reason why they're called custom rods. If you use the search function above for "static test" and all dates you will get a mountain of info. Check the article in the library first. The most important thing is to get the blank loaded evenly even if that means a compromise on casting ability.

I'd proceed as Col outlined, but in a pinch you could contact Dan Craft and ask for his spacing recommendations.
