Hi Chris,
If you don't get many responses then do some tests on strength and stretch and you'll know for your self. I did a lot of tests on madeira to compare it with other thread and Barry Chapman helped me do a lot more. I used 300mm of thread ( close enough to 1 foot ) and broke it while attached to a drag scale and got a close enough breaking strain ( average of ten tests ). Anything over 0.7 kg (1.5lb) is ok for guide wraps. Gudebrod and madeira was around 1.2kg (2.5lb). Same length for stretch but used it on a tape measure until it broke, noting the break length and did 10 tests for this also and got an average. Around 20% stretch is fine. Also inspect it for fuzzies to see what you have, run your finger nail up and down the thread to check how it responds. Finally bind some on a scrap blank some with and some without cp then put finish on it and see what you get. That will answer all your questions and enable you to test any thread to see what you have. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: Fishermans brand rodbuilding thread

Don't really want to use the thread is really old and was used for rod building just wanted to find out when this thread was made ect. Also a massive wooden bobbin full of brown silk made by bonds industries limited. I did a google search and nothing Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
