Have any of you Bamboo fly rod builders ever tried putting a Epoxy like Thread Master over Spar Vanish if so how good does it work and does it tend to separate from each other after time.

I also forgot to say that I am looking for a tuff spar that will hold the trim rings together for years to come

I can't figure out why you would want to use two different finishes on the same warps! Either one by itself will "hold the trim wraps together for years to come."

Glenn,
Not quite sure what you are trying to doing, but if you are refering to the thread epoxy over your guides/threads, on top of a Spar-varnish coated bamboo rod.
I do that at times and have never found any problems.

Most of the time I stick with all spar-varnish, but occassionally when pressed for time I use epoxy to do the threads, then coat the entire rod with spar. I would venture to say that one would be hard pressed to see the difference.

Hope this helps.

Larry

Thanks Larry that really helps as that is almost straight to the point of what I was trying to find out in the long term.
