I will be building an 80# deep drop rod for an electric reel in a couple of day. The rod will consist ofa gator deep drop blank, aftco bigfoot rollers, and a swivel top. I'll either do 3 or 4 rollers. I will do an underwrap of either A or D and then use size D Prowrap for the guide wraps. Is one wrap sufficient? If you use two do you finish with a coat of epoxy between wraps?
Thanks for the help! Re: Guide wraps for 80# Deep Drop rod

I would use "A" for the underwrap Then "C" or "D" for the overwraps .I would double wrap over the roller feet. Epoxy the under wrap (Thin Coat) Re: Guide wraps for 80# Deep Drop rod

You don't have to epoxy between wraps unless you simply want to.
Wrapping A on the blank with D over top will make it super easy on you. Even easier is to run D up the guide foot and turn it right back down the foot...doing it all with the same run of thread. Re: Guide wraps for 80# Deep Drop rod

Thanks. I have done what Jay describes on 30# rods but used A thread. Ran it up to the foot and turned it back down and epoxiesdd over that. Unless someone says not to I will plan on doin g that on this rod but with D thread... Re: Guide wraps for 80# Deep Drop rod

I have found that a coat of resin between wraps helps reduce cracking on top of the guide feet for conventional stye rods but it’s not essential Re: Guide wraps for 80# Deep Drop rod

Strength wise all you need is a 1/2" long wrap of A over each guide foot. With that for a wrap is takes over 40# of force to remove the guide. So go with what ever is easy and visually pleasing to you and don't worry about it. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
