Hi all,
I was just wondering if others on here can answer a question for me. I am using scotchbrite fine grey pads to rub the rod blank down well to get a water break free surface which works great when putting it under a dripping tap. My question is though, after rubbing the blank down to get a break free surface do you then need to clean the blank again with anything before appling the varnish. I have rubbed the blank to get a nice water break free surface and then cleaned it with isopropyl and the water doesn't break free aswell as it did before cleaning. It would be good to get some opinions from others with more knowledge so any info is welcome. Thx all Christian Re: Water break free on rod blank. Question

No, once you have deglossed the surface you need do nothing more. Never wipe the surface with a solvent after deglossing it.

But do clean before the grey pad. Regular soap and water works fine for me. If you want to use a solvent give it a try. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: Water break free on rod blank. Question

Hi thx for the reply guys. Its cleared it up for me . I was just thinking that after abrading the surface there would be small amounts of dust left on the blank that needed to be clean of before coating, is this not a problem? Re: Water break free on rod blank. Question

It's not a problem. If it bothers you, dust it off with a soft paint brush.
