Hi Guys,
I am having trouble finding the size and colour fly guide I want for the tip top on a build. It is a Batson rx8 6 weight with the soul purpose of throwing long casts. I am using pac bay single foots in the tich or black colour and have found the small loop guide to be a bit small and the large to be a bit large so I was thinking of going with a single foot size 3 guide. Can it be done (at this stage I don't see why not) and if so are there any pitfalls I need to look out for. Thanks, Ben Re: single foot guide as tip top on a fly rod

Sure it can be done and is all the time. The only pitfall is that it can be difficult to wrap a guide there strictly from a standpoint of dexterity. Other than that, it's often the best way to get the size and height "tiptop" you desire.

Ben,
I started using single foot guides for tip-tops before standard small ringed tip tops were available. Now I wouldn’t use anything else. They’re significantly lighter and I like their clean looks. Wrapping them takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s not difficult. I’ve never had a problem of any kind. If you’ll email me, I’ll send you picture.
