Let me start out by saying i really appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into some of the amazing thread work that I've seen here. Since I do mostly bamboo fly rods I really have only done a few basic cross wrap patterns.
here's my challenge, and if you think I'm in over my head please say so but I'm willing to try anything. i want to do a cross wrap pattern something like this [www.rodbuilding.org] but have a square center parts on each of the flats of a bamboo rod. I kind of have a basic idea on how to do a single wrap but is doing this six times over going to just be a mess? is it even possible? is there some online instructions? am I stupid for thinking about doing this? i'll break that one down for ya-make your center marks and cross these with a white cross, then measure out from this cross over 3-4 mm(vary this with size you want)then cross at these spots and work IN towards the first cross-overs.that pattern is refered to as a reverse or backward diamond www.southriverrodsllc.com Re: diamond weave help

Ok chris maybe I'm just too dense for this but. if I make the white X then work the black into it won't that cover the X. or do I have to lift the X and work under it? Like i said, maybe this isn't for me. Re: diamond weave help

Lets try this. The background inside the small white box and under the visible cross is the blank, no thread.
If this is what you would like, mark your center, white cross over the top. Measure out for the white box, wrap white on the 4 sides for the white box. Then black on 4 sides to create the black box. Then Orange on 4 side and highlight with white. The area between the repeats of the pattern are again the blank in the picture. If you wish black under the cross with blank colour between the repeats, then lay dow the black thread for the area inside the first white box, then the cross, then the white box and then continue as above. The above will give you the look. If you want to put the guide in, as per the image, then underwrap the entire area with black (including the guide. Then wrap the pattern. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: diamond weave help

Ok now that makes a whole lot of sense. I guess i wasn't thinking that that was the blank showing under the white X. So since my blank is tan color and if I wanted a different background behind the white X I could under wrap that and then workout from there. I think I've got this now. we'll see what happens tonight when I do a test run

If the change to backgound colour is JUST for the white box, and not for rest of pattern that is open, I am not sure what can be done short of paint. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
