Sam,
As has been said by many folks to many individuals just starting out on their first build. DON't start on an expensive blank using expensive guides. Rather - start with a decent - inexpensive blank, using decent inexpensive guides, butt grip and reel seat. Take your time and learn as you go and you will be in good shape. But don't beat yourself up if the first rod is not perfect, because it is NOT likely to be perfect. But, just use it as a kick start for better things to come. It is all about experience, and learning. The problem is that if you buy a very expensive blank and use very expensive guides and end up with a rod that is all right - but not perfect ( most likely), every time you use it you will beat yourself up for making these choices. But, welcome and the main thing - enjoy yourself as you do this new to you occupation. Roger Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
