All,
I was unable to attend and would greatly appreciate subjective/ objective feedback about newer lines/ designs of graphite rod blanks shown/ flexed. Lamiglas, Hydra, Phoenix, Fjui, etc. Thanks for any info, Rick Re: Tell us about new rod blanks!

I spent some time with Alex at the hydra booth and can honestly say that his blanks are incredible! I cannot wait to get my hands I want to build. I did look at the Fujis and they are very nice as well, but I'm going to say the Hydra blanks are going to be 1 of my main blanks of choice from now on. ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: Tell us about new rod blanks!

I will second Don's comments. I am really looking forward to getting the Hydra's on the water! I meant to look at the Fuji's and the new Lamiglass as well but just didn't get to it. Re: Tell us about new rod blanks!

The silica based epoxy is finer and better penetrates the carbon fibers to provide better bonding. This provides the manufacturer the flexibility in using the new epoxy to achieve different levels of power, weight and durability. Lamiglas is certified by 3M for using Powerlux. I did receive a request for an Infinity Surf IS 120 2 MH. It was sold almost immediately. Here's what the owner wrote up on a fishing forum: Initial report "I got to finally try out my Lamiglass infinity plugging rod a bit this weekend. The rod is super light (13.7 oz complete). It has a fast action that does recover really quickly. The pole casts great. I threw some 1.5-2.5 lure this weekend (forgot my big lures at home)and it had no problems with these lures. It had no problems making the lures chug and spit. If youre looking for a good place to get this blank, check out Roy's and ask him about the lamiglass blank. Its a bit pricer than other blanks available, but well worth it. I got it paired with my Stella 10k and it does feel balanced." Followup Report "I got to really test out the pole this afternoon. The tip does recover really quickly after the cast that there is virtually no rod slap even when throwing the leaders thru the guides. the rod is a bit harder to work than my old plugging rod, but the action transfered to the lure is well worth it. I noticed that the lures tend to dig into the water more, creating more of a 'fartin' sound and longer bubble trails than just spitting water over the surface. i got to try this at some of the plugging spots and hook into something to see what this pole can do." hey Don, i've read that in order for the resin to really take full advatnage of its technology, you'll have to autclave it during the process. is it true? Re: Tell us about new rod blanks!

False. 3M did visit Lamiglas for certification. I talked with a 3M specialist regarding Powerlux and phrased my questions along the lines of: I am a distributor of rods and rod blanks, how do I distinguish between the rods in regards to quality and delivering manufacturer claims? Later in the conversation I brought up the question as to what the autoclave process does to improve the blank. I do not have the exact words readily available, but he said: with the process used by Lamiglas, the autoclave will not add anything (improve) the blank. I asked if he could be quoted and the answer was yes. Sometimes you have to talk to the people in the know. In this case, it was the people who manufacture Powerlux.
