Marbling Question

Finally back in the saddle, I am building two rods for my daughters, using components Billy V sold me LAST year (embarassing, but true). Anyway, I want to do some marbling down by the handle, i think my girls would enjoy helping with that. Just wondering if I should do that before or after I wrap and epoxy the guides.
Thanks, Bob Groppe Re: Marbling Question

Bob,
If you do it before, you can put a final clear coat, or two, over your marbled area, at the same time you finish your guides. I do this, but I also usually put a label on my marbled section. Chris Re: Marbling Question

I like to run a black underwrap and put a thin coat of finish on. Once that is cured, I then start introducing pigments, layering them from dark to light. This creates a nice depth look. To keep some seperation in the colors, i add a little Trelikes sap. The sap also thickens the pigment/epoxy mix so you get some "stringyness" when you pull from the cup and adds a cool look when you apply to the blank.
