Hi All
I have a question on a spinning real seat that has some movement in it, the rod is over 30 yrs old but I use it all the time. I am almost sure that when I built this rod I used string for an arbor. How can I tighten the reel seat up ?? Any suggestions would be a great help. Re: reel seat

Temporary fix - drill a hole in the back side of the reel seat and inject some epoxy.
Permanent fix - remove the reel seat and start over. ............ Re: reel seat

Remove the butt griip of the rod.
Cut the reel seat off of the rod, strip out any material that is on the blank. Put a new arbor on the rod. Put a new reel seat on the rod. But a new butt grip and cap on the rod and go fishing. Roger Re: reel seat

Try drilling 3 holes in the reel seat where the reel will hide them when mounted.
One angled toward the hood, one in the middle, and the last angled towards the threaded section. Be very carefull not to drill into the blank. Then inject a good liqid epoxy. We use Flex Coat. Needle assemblies can usually be found at a larger drug store or medical supply house. The best solution is as Roger has said, but this may save you from having to do all that. Since it is your own rod, see what you think. The problem is that whatever caused the seat to come loose in the first place will probably happen again, but may take several more years. Thanks to all, a lot to think about. I may go with the three holes I can always go with Tom or Roger way if I still have problems.
thanks again Frank Re: reel seat

If your repair goes anything like mine you might be better off commiting to a complete rebuild up front.
I'll spare you all the details and simply say that what was intended to be a quick fix of a loose reel seat turned into a total strip and rebuild. The whole job would have gone quicker, easier, and better if I planned to do so in the beginning. It was silly to fit cork grips over the butt end only to later remove, replace, and rewrap all guides. It will probably end up taking about the same total amount of time. Today's guides, combined with newer layout and sizing ideas, will make a worthwhile improvment. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: reel seat

Russ,
Exactly why I made my first recommendation. I - also - have been in the same situation. Roger Re: reel seat

Can a reel seat effect a spinning rod's sensitivity. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
