I haven't heard any complaints about this but I want to make sure before I build several bass rods...
Are the black carbon tennessee grips extremely hot in the summer sitting on the boat all day in the sun and does that pose any risk to the epoxy? Thanks! Re: carbon tennessee tubing heat?

Maybe some more experienced than I will give you a positive answer, but I'd say no issues.
Most fishing rods are black. A ton of guide wraps are black. There are even black hulled boats. People usually don't have resin damage with the above. Re: carbon tennessee tubing heat?

They can get hot when in the direct sunlight for long periods of time on the hottest days of the year, but it's pretty rare in my experience. In 4.5 years, I only recall the grips being uncomfortable to pick up once. If they do get hot, wet your hand, and the water will absorb the excess heat. Keep in mind I live in Ohio where we only get a few weeks per year of temps over 90?. It's not much of an issue here, and I don't believe Steve Gardner has too many issues with his either. Maybe he'll chime in being in NC, and spending a lot of time on the water.

Count me in with Mr. Vanfossen
With 2 exceptions all my rods are built using carbon fiber including Tenn. handles used in bass boat spread out on deck in direct sun light all day. Never hot enough to effect epoxy Been using them since the early 1980's and never been hot enough to stop me from using them and we get many 95-100 degree days in NC. have pick them up a couple times when they hot. but I do as Joe suggested No different then black seats on other style rods Re: carbon tennessee tubing heat?

If you are concerned about heat, put the handle in a white styrofoam box and they will be nice and cool in the hot sunshine.
