Most comfortable spinning seats?
Posted by: Rick Schafer (---.neo.res.rr.com)

Hey guys,

I'm building a personal rod and wanted to get some idea's for my reel seat.

I'm using a 2500 Sustain Fg on the rod.

I've used Minima reel seats and liked them. Just looking for something different and the most comfortable.

I'm considering tennessee style but not quite sold on the idea.

Any tips or ideas are welcome!!

Thanks Rick

TN handle on graphite tubing or a sleeved grip section with the reel wrapped on with thread and finish.

If you don't want to go with the TN handle, the Amtak Aero seat gets a lot of good reviews. The biggest thing is getting a seat diameter that fills the hand. What works well for me is a TN handle 1.05" in diameter or an 18mm spinning seat (similar OD). Once you go with a TN handle, you won't want to go back, at least I don't.

Aero
You can also make a Hump and shape it to fit YOU and glue it on a spin seat ??

depends on how you hold the reel. The Aero is great, uplocking or downlocking, as are the Fuji VSS seats, buy a few they are cheap enough and get a feel.

I like the SBSS(Sticks and Bones Spinning Seat) and feel it is very comfortable. I am of course biased, but it is an option for you

I like an uplocking Aero also. My favorite is still a TN. I'd like to find some rings larger than 26mm though.

Not a fan of the split spinning seats or minima seats , hand crampers. On my personal rods, i use a fuji DPSM(or similar) and put an EVA overlay in between the hoods so that everything flushes up on top or it has a slight palm swell between the hoods. I'll do the same thing when using cork inserts and skeleton seats, turning the insert so it's flush or slightly swelled above the hoods. Using a size 17 skeleton seat and flushing all the cork to the hoods gives an almost tennessee handle feel.

Hi Rick,
I'm an Alps tri seat fan. The new comfort tri seats look good and Barry Chapman had one at the last SEARBS meet and they're very nice. Expensive but excellent seats. The AmTac aeros in the 17 size and uplocking would be my next choice.

Hidden reel hood (buried beneath the cork of the foregrip) , a cork body shaped to match the foregrip, and then the up-locking rings and threaded portion. That is unless you want to just use something off the shelf.

My head just exsploded from trying to keep up on what everyone likes... Reminds me of driving trucks when someone was asking on the CB if the scale house was open?

I will add that Jim Hichs wins, because he provided "pictures."

I like the IPSM Fuji and Aero reel seat used in the down locking configuration.
Both are very comfortable to hold.
The 16mm Fuji VSS looks nice but they are too small in diameter for me. The 17mm might be okay.
The IPSM is a very nice seat but both it and the VSS need the special cut-out cork or EVA handles.
I think they're both a little fussy to install, and the cork handles tend to need a lot of fitting to get them to fit tight and look just right.
My advice would be to use slow setting epoxy so there's lots of time to work it into the fancy internal cut-outs.

Hammer handle is the most comfortable to me- [www.rodbuilding.org]

The Aero uplocking is also nice- [www.rodbuilding.org]

Good luck.

WOW,

Matt your idea is what I kind of had in mind. (great minds must think alike LOL)

Good stuff guys. I'm not a fan of the Aero's. I'm sort of old school and like cork handles. I'm considering the hidden hood on the Fuji HPS uplocking with cork insert even with top of skeleton seat. I don't care for forgrips just added weight as I hold reel with one finger around stem of reel and palm on small rear grip.

The hammer handle is a work of art Stan!!

And Chuck your post made me laugh out loud as I was a driver from 92-97 and still can hear all the different voices yelling over the CB.

So maybe we'll call it a Tennessee Skeleton seat ???

Great advise as always!!

Thanks Rick
