I am putting together my first build and like the look and price of the DBRLF Ring Lock Fly guides by American tackle. I am using a MHX843 casting blank, split grip, no fore grip and want good basic guides that are stainless steel frames. Can I just run all size 5 or should I use like a 7 then 6 then all 5's. Not thinking it makes a huge difference but as I said, I am new. Re: fly guides on baitcaster

You don't need to use all the various sizes, get through the butt guide and drop right on down to 5's if you know those will do what you need to do. This will give you a straighter line path and a lighter overall guide set.

Make sure your knots will pass though the 5s and not hang up

I use fly guides all the time on casting rods. I have used them up to my muskie stick without issue. Go for it. Re: fly guides on baitcaster

On a casting rod, you can run 5mm guides from start to finish ... no need for another size. As noted, knots are your only concern. Re: fly guides on baitcaster
