So I have been experimenting with Gold Leaf... without much success but thats beside the point for this post. I had a thought about how to use gold or silver leaf for lettering.
Would anyone know of a way to actually print an adhesive or something that remained tacky onto a backing then transfer that onto a rod blank. This would then allow you to apply the gold leaf to the rod leaving whatever lettering or pattern you printed. An example would be the way old school sign makers worked. They hand lettered signs using a paint or "size" then applied the golf leaf.. the leaf stuck wherever the sticky material was painted on. My idea is to actually use a printer to print whatever lettering on a backing then transfer that to the rod blank.... then apply gold leaf. anyone know of such a product ????? thanks Re: gold leaf ?

That's a great idea although I'm not aware of anything off the top of my head. Maybe somebody else will have an idea.

You can print on special paper, laminate gold film, transfer that to clear film, then apply to rod with spray adhesive.
[www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] Before I get blasted - I have ordered several full sheets of my logo from Decal Connection on the left. But if you want to do things yourself you can check out DecalPRO. However, you will save a lot of money by using Decal Connection unless you do an awful lot of decals! _________________________________________ "Angling is extremely time consuming. Pretty much any sign writer will have a vinyl cutter you just need to ask them to make a cut out of what you want to use the leaf on and ask them to weed out the font not the backgroung this will give you a mask. Stick the mask in place spray your adhesive and the peel off the mask, you will be left with the font or logo on the blank in adhesive now just apply you leaf as normal and you should be good to go.
Trick is having the mask reverse weeded. Most vinyl guys will get it or alternatively get them to send it to you with out any weeding at all if your careful enough you will also get a cut out sticker to use aswell. The issue with that is the typical plotter that they use to cut graphics in vinyl film will not cut lettering as fine as what I need. Im looking for something that would allow me to leaf lettering roughly the same size as say a typical rod description that comes with a new blank. Very small and very fine.. What you are talking about would work wonderfully for larger logos... and I may in fact go that route for some things... but for the stuff im looking at it just wont work. Re: gold leaf ?

Alps printer will print in metallic gold. They are hard to find but can do the small lettering.
Good luck. Stan Re: gold leaf ?

Yeah I have looked into that dry transfer system and like it a lot. Depending on if I can justify the expense I may or may not take the dive and purchase one.
