I recently purchased an ultralight Pflueger Pesident spinning combo. It arrived with the new split grip graphite rod. However, the end of the rod extends through and past the tip-top guide by a little more than one sixteenth of an inch. It seems like this protrusion could interfere with the line during casting. Further, the edges of the graphite protrusion are quite sharp, leading me to think that line may be damaged during the casting process. Is this a defect which slipped past quality control? I've never seen it before. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank-You for your consideration. Re: Advice Needed

I'm not familiar with a tiptop that has an opening on the tip end, which would allow the rod blank to slide through. However, that's one way to make the same tiptop size fit blanks with slightly different tip sizes - you just slide the tiptop down until it seats, and then trim off whatever portion of blank protrudes from the end.
Take a file and remove the protrusion. You'll be fine. Remember that fishing rods are not precision machined/sized items. .............. Re: Advice Needed

That sounds like a bit broken off the end. Tips are generally a closed tube. Re: Advice Needed

Right, I'm assuming it is indeed a tiptop, not a regular guide that's had the rod beyond it broken off.
