how does this dryer work?

anyone know how this "chuck" is supposed to work? I can make some for this but maybe someone knows how this works? thanks [s1281.beta.photobucket.com]

I'm not sure about the right side of the picture, but the left side looks like you could use rubber bands to center the blank or grip, like you would on a homemade PVC chuck.

Bob,
It appears that you have a two rod dryer.
It would seem that in use, the flat disk would fit against the back plate. Then, install a pair of rubber bands diagonally across the chuck. Capture the butt of the rod in the X formed by the crossed rubber bands. Possibly, to be sure you might have to have 4 bands on the chuck to hold the grip secure in the chuck.

Your picture is very similar to ones found on the picture side of this forum.
