Not necessary, but highly recommended if you wish to virtually eliminate single foot guide pull out.

For long large guides, I really have never seen the need. Also, for the taller guide feet with the larger end on them; the locking wrap tends to show a bit more than if the wrap were on a smaller guide.

But for any of the smaller guides; especially those with a short foot - really make a lot of sense to use the locking wrap.

I use the Forhan locking wrap on all single foots, except the first 2-3 at the tip. My thinking is that I would rather have a guide pull loose, than snap a tip.

Hank

I don't use the Forhan locking wrap, but i do use a 3 or 4 thread straight blocking wrap on every guide wrap. Haven't lost a guide in about 8-10 years!

I guess I will try this wrapping technique although in wrapping single foot guides since they first started being sold, I have never had a guide pull out or a rod returned to have single foot guides replaced. Probably some good insurance though.

Has anyone done a locking wrap on the fuji bktag guides? I tried it but I have never done the Forhan locking wrap and I could not get it to work well on those guides.

Hi Hank
I just repaired a factory rod because guides were loose and coming out with the locking wrap they would not have come out.

Takes a few seconds and it's security that I [point out is NOT available on factory rods. May not be absolutely necessary but it's appreciated by my customers I use it on ALL single foot guides. Like Chris said, Why wouldn't you?
