alternatives to epoxy and pg

Trying to get away from the weight and thickness of epoxy and not willing to keep having bottles of Permagloss set up on me. I only build about three or four rods a year. So I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions for an off the shelf hardware store product for coating guide wraps? Was wondering if a standard outdoor gloss urethane could not be used for thread wraps with good results.

I finished one rod with helmsman spar urethane. It took 6 coats but they dry fairly quickly. The rod is in great shape 2 years later.

I keep my PG in the fridge and have no problems with it. I do plan on trying Threadmaster One after having a recent conversation with Scott Parsons.

I cannot imagine that someone has a product out there that accidently is better for an application than the experts in that application have been able to design and produce.

If you do not want the regular epoxies and polys sold for rodbuilding i am with Ron here: Deft water based poly. You have to mail order it as its not available in most places. I have salt pier and beach as well as freshwater rods built with it that have done 3 seasons now and its tough. But threadmaster one is also an alternative to try.

We also offer a water based product called Rod Varnish, it is based on the same technology as our ThreadMaster One only it is almost water thin. Several of our dealers are now stocking it.
Thanks
Scott
