This month Bass Angler Magazine features an article regarding the theraputic impact of rodbuilding for custom rodbuilder Rich Redmon of R2 Rods, an Iraq war vet suffering from PTSD.

We are grateful to Rich for his service both past and present. We're also incredibly honored to have him list Hydra rod blanks and Kigan guides as his components of choice.

Simply put - Thank you. It's great to see something so inspirational about our veterans and particularly about our craft.

Here is an online link to the article as well: [www.richredmon.com]

Very Cool! I taught a rod building class last fall to some wounded soldiers at Ft. Eustis, Va. The initial group had 8 folks, and 3 dropped due to various reasons. The 5 that stayed got ate up with it. It started off with just a fly rod and was sponsored by Project Healing Waters. When that class ended they kept in contact and they moved to spinners and bait casters. One fella got moved to AZ. where he started a PT rod building business. The one thing they all said was it was very relaxing and help them channel their energy into something they liked.

If anyone gets the chance to sponsor or teach rod building to a group of vets, It's a very rewarding experience.

I can really relate to this. I'm a Vietnam Veteran and have had problems with PTSD ever since returning home. Any of you combat vets out there know exactly what I'm saying. Divorce, drinking, sleepless nights,,,,,, Rod building and fly fishing in general has done wonders for my inner peace. I'm not going into a long speach here, but fly fishing is a wonderful channel and my rod building business just raised the bar. In fact, I participated in a 10 week PTSD clinic at the VA Medical Center. One of the activities they recommend is fishing.
