reel seat repair?

I am re-guiding a spinning rod for a friend and noticed the front hood of the reel seat can spin freely on the rod. Looks like he was using electrical tape to hold the reel still. Is there any non destructive techniques I can use to lock the hood down. The Hood and lock ring of the seat are aluminum with cork in the middle of the seat. I tried wrapping some thread between the aluminum and the front cork grip, but it isn't tight enough. My next best guess was to try some very thin CA and try to inject with a syringe?
For clarity the reel seat looks like this type [www.mudhole.com] but it is configured up locking -Jon Re: reel seat repair?

Jon,
I have one with the same problem, i decided to tear it down and found that the front hood was a seperate piece (split seat) and was glued solid to the arbor but the arbor was spining on the blank. The center cork was also spinning, I am replacing all of the guides on mine and will be regluing the seat on new arbors. I mention this just as a FYI that it may be more than just the hood. Good Luck with your repair. J Scott Englewood, Fl Re: reel seat repair?

Jim,
On my project it does seem to be just the front hood. The center and rear lock ring both seem to be secure still. -Jon Re: reel seat repair?

if the glue job was done badly -- How long will the rest last
It may be wise to take it off and check it all If you can Let the owner decide Bill - willierods.com Re: reel seat repair?

Jim,
If you are replacing all of the guides on the rod, it is not much additional effort to remove the fore grip on the rod. Then, if the front hood is loose, the hood will likely come right off. But, if you are going that far, it might be a good idea to completely strip down the rod, remove the entire reel seat, replace it with a current seat and - depending on the type of rear grip, replace that one as well. If the rod were at my location, a complete strip is what I would be doing with the rod and blank. Be safe Roger Re: reel seat repair?

I don't want to hijack thread. I have removed everything but the rear grip on my repair.
Jon is the one asking for input on repairing the loose real seat hood. Please focus on his question. JS Re: reel seat repair?

I already know what my pay will be since I'm doing this as a favor ;) I got several wraps of thread down close to the blank between the front grip and the hood, then ran as much thin CA glue as I could down in. It seems like it gripped pretty good. I'm not replacing all the decorative wraps or the factory decals to try to keep the look original, so if it lets loose again, and he cares, I would replace the front grip and reel seat. There is only 1 guide on the lower half of the rod (2 piece) so it wouldn't be a big deal if that one has to come off again in the future.
Thanks all for the input. -Jon Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
