Got my flight and hotel booked today.... for you veterans, what is the best way to get to hotels near convention from airport?
EDIT.... not directions..... taxi, bus, rental car? ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/04/2012 02:54PM by Don Morse. Re: Going to EXPO!!!!

From GSO ... shared cab. You can rent a car, but it costs to park it and you won't really need it once there. Get one of the RB decals and hang it around your neck. That's a good way to find a "cab buddy". Average cab fare is about $40 to/from the airport/hotel, sharing makes it more palatable. I will be one of those looking for a "cab buddy" ... plenty of others will be as well. Re: Going to EXPO!!!!

The air port has several shuttles that run to near by hotels.
I would check with the hotel and your air carrier to find out if their hotel is included, and to get a schedule based on your arrival time. Let me rephrase that: Many of the hotels have shuttles that run back and forth from the airport I would check with them first Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/04/2012 03:44PM by Steve Gardner. They have flights from LA to GSO ... $421 including taxes on Delta with one stop in Atlanta. I am paying $100 less from Tampa this time, but I have paid more to get there. Tough up and make the trip. I used to COMMUTE to work from Tampa to Burbank ... weekly depending on schedules. The show is absolutely worth the price and there isn't anything else even close to it. I will buy you a drink at the Embassy Suites one evening to help offset the expense ... heck, make it two. Re: Going to EXPO!!!!

Michael, you better take Jim up on that deal. Two years ago he let me have dinner with Gary Loomis. I still owe Jim a Buffalo River Smallmouth fishing trip for that one. I was recovering from a hip replacement last year, but am planning on making the 1000 mile driving trip in 2013.

Michael,
There is no other event like the Expo, anywhere. The fact is, this industry and craft are simply not large enough to demand such events in multiple fashion. There have been rod building events on the west coast, NW, NE, etc., that had hoped to emulate the Expo, but none drew very well. And when they didn't draw well, the exhibitors lost money and didn't return, leading to the demise of those events. I understand the cost of travel and sympathize with you, but if you want to attend something like the Expo, you'll have to come here. Otherwise you'll be waiting a long, long time, maybe forever, to have something like this closer to you. Of course in the meantime, there are smaller local gatherings which are certainly valuable in their own way. Keep your eyes and ears open for something along those lines closer to you. ........... I live in Australia and I think it's worth the expense just to meet some of you guys face to face. The Expo will be a bonus. Were else is there where so many builders are in the one place at the one time? ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: Going to EXPO!!!!
