Just after some opinions on how to secure a single trim band on the start of a wrap.I have left a tag end out of the wrap and was going
to secure it using a nail knot and then a dab of super glue.I know its tricky stuff to get just a dab on so was wondering whether to use clour preserver as this may hold it in place. For got to mention the trim band is metallic and the base colour is NCP. I am just trying a different way of doing things again to find out the easiest way for me just love single trim bands. cheers Ray Balmforth Figtree NSW Australia Re: Help Needed

I know there is a correct way, but I have been starting the main wrap, with 2 seperate pull loops in place. Once I have about 6 -10 wraps down, I pull the first end of the trim through, make the trim wrap, and pull the other end through making sure to block the thread where i want it to pull through. It works and it's pretty easy after ther first few. Re: Help Needed

I'll offer this for whatever help it might be. Generally I find that a drop of CP will lock down these narrow wraps while you're awaiting the finishing process. Otherwise, most times I don't even bother. The tension of the thread keeps them locked, save for a lot of handling.

Hi Ray,
Do a couple of test wraps and see which is best for you. Craig's method is the one I showed you but you need to be careful how you pull the trim through as it's easy to get it misaligned. I usually do 5 or 6 wraps before pulling it through. The pull through needs to be 1/4 to 1/2 way further round the blank then pull it carefully until all is lined up. Sometimes you need to do a bit of adjusting with a burnishing tool to get it right. A drop of cp on the cross over may help to keep everything in place. A pair of hermostats makes pulling the tag end through a lot easier. If you haven't got a set then I've got an extra pair you can borrow. You'll get it right, just do a bit of practice first and you find out where the problems occur. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: Help Needed

I also use Craing's technique.
I like to use at least 6 wraps to insure that there is enough tension to lock the trim wrap. Roger Re: Help Needed

Thanks for the replies guys.Does anyone know how the super glue reacts with epoxy was wondering if it can be seen clearly.
I have been using a pull through for the end trim wraps as i usually do 3 to 5 band trims and have got the knack of that. But on this one i started out with the trim colour and used one end underneath to continue up further doing a spiral withe main colour. So i then had a tag end to do the single wrap and thought i could secure it with super glue or maybe colour preserver.Havent had to use CP yet so not sure how good a job it would do holding the knot in place before epoxying would hate for it to unravel. cheers Ray Balmforth Figtree NSW Australia Re: Help Needed

Anything is possible, but in the interest of overall appearance, I really dislike using any cement or cp duing the wrap. I would rather that the wraps take care of all locking needs.

When I do a single trim band, I wrap around the blank and cross over pulling back to towards the guide. I then tape the ends past the guide, and tape the single wrap in place close to where I begin my guide wrap. I try to wrap a bit tighter about one turn or two halfway on the guidefoot. From there, I remove the tape(s) and hold my burnishing tool (the point of it) at the cross and pull the thread ends tight so the trim is flush and tight against the wrap. I leave the tag ends pulled thru the thread until I'm done with the wrap, then trim all tags and burnish. Re: Help Needed

Once again thanks to all who replied.Have gone with the CA looks okay but will find out how it really went when the
epoxy goes on.Fred i have done the single trim before as you described it did a good job but gets a bit fiddly towards the tip on the ultra light rods but so do all the bindings painstaking work at times. cheers Ray Balmforth Figtree NSW Australia Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
