WOW! Rod or Pole never thought about it before, whenever I heard fishing rod or fishing pole I thought of fishing equipment.
To me a fishing rod is built to accept a reel and have guides. A fishing pole is a long cylinder with a line attached to it. Now you guys have me wondering. I will have to move this higher on my courious priority list. I will place it up with why superman stands firm while being shot at with a pistol but ducks when the shooter throws the pistol at him. Goes to show what people ponder over. This will get some offended or outraged or spark controversy. Such is life. Just throwing my 2 cents in. John Re: Fishing rod or fishing pole?

The reason for this post is the people here on this forum build fishing rods and may have built a few fishing poles. There have been some long time fishing rod builders that have chimed in with what I know as the difference.
I used some language Gary didn't like so much so I guess he has to take me to court now, I told him I was sorry. Oh well time to teach an old dog a lesson I guess. Tight wraps and lines, Wylie Re: Fishing rod or fishing pole?

I'd have to argue with you Bill "fishing rod" mentions a reel, "fishing pole" doesn't. They're made to catch fish okay in that sense they are the same. Tight wraps and lines, Wylie Re: Fishing rod or fishing pole?

I'm with Mike Barkley on this and when I hear my wife tell someone "Yeah, he's in there working on a fishing pole.", I immediately respond: "A pole is an object to which telephone lines are attached." You'd think she'd learn. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
