Fuji GPS

I just saw that some reel models have been added to the Anglers Resource (Fuji) GPS site. So, I clicked on the Stradic 2500 reel and got all the calculations & guide placements for the guides I used. Weird thing is, they're not anywhere near what I've come up w/ using the 27x method. Strange. Anyone else find this situation?
I know, space them out and test cast. I will. Just wondering. Re: Fuji GPS

I found out the same thing, the only thing thing i could think of was that Fuji was using the KL series guides , which has a higher frame, which made the distances different then the 27x, method, I may be wrong, so i will wait to hear someones elses responce. Re: Fuji GPS

I found the GPS software put the first guide a bit closer than the 27X method. Keep in mind there is nothing magical about 27X, it's just a well tested number, but there is nothing to say that 25X would not be equivalent. The GPS software takes a different approach and lets you set up a "glide slope" reduction train with the specific heights of their guides and your reel, or lets you use the 27X method too.
I've built just 2 spinning rods using the GPS software and noted the butt guide is about 1-3 inches closer to the reel than with the 27X method. Both rods cast just great. Better or worse than 27X I don't know, but I doubt the differences are major. It would be interesting to see the casting experiments of the NERBs repeated with spinning rods and GPS vs 27X, because without data like that, all other conversation is speculation. Re: Fuji GPS

You'll have to ask Tom, but as I understand it, 27X is a conclusion Tom reached after extensive work with the New Guide Concept. It is well researched and well documented and there's no arguing with its success. 27X is an acceptable solution that hinges on spool diameter. It further makes the assumption that spool angle does not matter. On the other hand, GPS (and Fuji's original intent in developing the New Guide Concept) recognizes spool ANGLE as a key player in the efficiency of the "system" and downplays spool diameter as a major factor. Because the NGC was a springboard for Tom's 27X, the terminology and parameters have been blended and used interchangeably for 15 years which has lead to a lot of confusion as the two ideas have begun to diverge since the introduction of GPS. With the introduction of the KR CONCEPT, the disparity between the two philosophies has been pulled into even sharper focus and that, I think, accounts for many new questions. The differences have always been there, it's just that recent developments have brought them to the fore. Every builder out there is going to have to sort this issue out on their own. A 2-inch spool diameter is going to put a choke point at 54 inches using 27X. That's a fast, reliable way to position the choke and get on with the business of building a rod. GPS (NGC), on the other hand, will provide a range of choke points based on angle and can (on occasion) offer whatever advantages come from a rod that is built to "match" a specific (range) of reels. Sometimes there is a notable advantage...sometimes there is not.
