I've got a customer who wants a swimbait rod similar in action to the Dobyns 795ML. He'll be throwing Monster BullShads - not sure of the weight on those(4-5oz?). Here are the specs from the Dobyns site: 7’9? 1pc. 15-30lb, 1-5oz, Med/Hvy Fast Mike Long Signature Swimbait Rod. I know that there are lots of blanks to choose from that would be great for swimbaits but I've never handled that particular rod so I really can't make a recommendation to him. Any thoughts?
thanks Re: Swimbait rod

Cheng,
While I have not built any heavy swim baits rods using the blanks suggested above, I have built numerious magnum swim bait rods using the Rainshadow blanks and my clients have been very please with them. The bigger swim baits, as you probably are aware, can weigh as much 8-9 oz, and not too many blanks are available that will handle this kind of weight. The Batson / Rainshadow blank that I have been using for the big swim baits is: ISWB947, Power: M, Length: 7'10", Pieces: 1, Line Wt: 25-60lbs, Lure Wt: 4-10 oz, Butt: 0.850", Tip: 9.0, Action: Fast, Power: XH, Blank Wt: 7.60oz. I have never been dissatisfied with a Batson / Rainshadow blank. Don Campbell don@sensorfishingrods.com Re: Swimbait rod

forgot to mention, i have to take into consideration the weight of the blank itself too. the guy is going to use a Daiwa Ryoga/Pluton on there - 12some oz reel! he doesnt want to be slinging 2+lbs all day...
and, i keep getting questions from the guy so, are there any blanks out there that may be similar in action to a Megabass F8-78DG Super Destruction? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
