Please help with Stripper guide position

Im currently working on my next popping rod. Im using a Race Point 200 blank, with the Fuji "K" series guides.

My question is as follows:

As per the Saltywater tackle site, it is recommended for the stripper guide (size 40 ring) to be 129 cm from the tip top. After setting the guides up, the test cast was relatively rough with some line slap present. The reel that I was using was a Stella 8000.......so before I go out and experiment again, would you guys recommend to bring the guide closer to the reel seat, or take it away from the reel seat?

Also is it normal for popping rods to have some line slap? The big spinning reels really do have big spools and it seems difficult to believe you can stop the line slap completely.

Thanks for any help provided.

Regards,

Farid Badri

The stripping guide should be set from the reel face, not from the tiptop of the rod. The reel doesn't care how long the rod is and for any given reel/line combination, the stripping guide location should be the same, regardless of rod length.

See if this doesn't help you:

It also contains a rough guide for approximate stripping or butt guide locations.
