Hey Guys, I was at walmart recently and picked up a Penn Power Stick that had some damage to it. The entire first guide (the biggest) was ripper right off the rodall the threads around were frayed and the finish cracked. i am looking to remove the finish and the top layer of thread and re coat it but dont know how to get it off without damaging the underwraps. No i am not putting a guide there. Thanks. Re: Repairs

Try the FAQS page here. It includes instructions on how to remove guides.

Tyler, This should be fairly simple since the guide is gone and the threads are cut.Wearing eye protection, you'll have to pick at the frayed threads until you get to an unbroken thread that you can unravel. This top layer of thread should peal off without damage being done to the underwraps but, I must warn you that without eye protection you must be careful as while you start to unravel this thread, the finish will shatter like glass and always seems to be eye level while this is happening.
After the layer is removed clean things up with Scotch Brite and re coat with epoxy. No big deal. It'll come out looking like new. Dennis J. Danku (Sayreville,NJ) Re: Repairs
